Raw Mango Rice (Andhra Style)

2

Whenever this rice dish is cooked in my kitchen, the aroma of south Indian tadka flavour boosts up the appetite of everyone in my family. Though rice dishes are not a staple food in my family as bread, roti or paranthas but I like to cook rice in one or the other way. Sometimes I cook rice adding veggies to make veg pulao or fried rice. Green bean rice and berry n’ nuts pulao are the favourites of my family. I love to add raw mangoes and shredded coconut to this versatile grain to give it a tangy-sweet flavour. My family loves to eat this flavoursome rice dish with mix veg sambhar and chutneys

With the arrival of mangoes, several dishes are added to our day to day menu in which I can use this wonderful fruit mango whether raw or ripe. The one such dish is raw mango rice. This rice dish is Andhra style and called mangai sadam there. This mildly spiced rice dish has a tanginess from raw mango as well as a sweetness which comes from shredded coconut. Leftover rice or simple steamed rice can be used as a base for this flavoursome dish
