Indian chaat dishes hold a special place in its cuisine. These dishes are savored as street food or homemade. This section of our cuisine is so addictive that lovingly eaten by heart. Interestingly, this is so massive that you can’t count the chaat dishes on fingers. The concept of street food in India is based mainly on the chaat dishes.

Most of the chaat dishes are curd or yogurt-based.  Lip-smacking chutneys and a few spices help to lift the flavors. These spices like roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, mint powder, black salt, etc. are the key ingredients that not only make the chaat relishable  but also digestion-friendly


Today’s chaat dish, the Makhana Chaat is not an exception. This dish contains makhana /Lotus Seeds as the main ingredient.  Roasted and flavored makhanas are exceptionally crunchy and tasty. Not only this, but these are also excellent sources of nutrition, so I recommend adding them to the everyday diet in some way or another. Curd, a few chutneys, particular spices, any fruit, and banana chips for crunch all together make this chaat a wonderful packet of taste, crunch, and color. You can enjoy this chaat dish in fasting days also as all the ingredients are recommended to consume during fasting days

●  INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

• Flavored roasted makhana(Lotus Seeds)- 200 g ☆(See Tips and Notes)
• Boiled potato(peeled and cubed) – 1-2 nos
• Cubed plums/alubukhara – 1/4 cup ☆(See Tips and Notes)
• Banana chips for topping – 10-12 (crushed)
• Thick curd – 1 bowl
• Cold milk – 1/4 cup
Green chutney(without onion)- 2 tbsp
Imli/Tamarind Chutney  – 3-4 tbsp
• Salt – 1 tsp/to taste
• Red chilly powder  – 1 tsp/to taste
• Roasted cumin/jeera powder  – 2 tsp
• Chaat masala – 2 tsp
• Sugar powder  – 2 tsp

●  PROCEDURE TO MAKE MAKHANA CHAAT

1- Churn the thick curd well and add cold milk, sugar powder,  and salt. Combine well

2- Add the curd to a serving bowl

3- Add green and tamarind chutneys. Combine the chutneys with curd

4- Add boiled potato cubes and cubed plums to the curd

5- Next, add roasted makhana to the curd and combine well

6- Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder,  and red chilly powder all over the makhana chaat

7- Sprinkle some more chutneys on top. Crush banana chips and place on top

8- Enjoy the super easy, tasty and lip-smacking makhana chaat at any time of the day 😋 ❤️

☆TIPS AND NOTES
1 – I have used roasted and flavored makhanas/Lotus Seeds. But you can use raw one. Roast them dry or with1 tsp oil to make them crisp and crunchy

2 – Add makhanas and banana chips just before serving the chaat to retain the crunch

3 – Feel free to add any fruit of your choice like grapes, pomegranate, and banana taste good in this falahari chaat
