TAHINI DIP / MIDDLE EASTERN DIP TAHINI WITH SESAME SEEDS
If you are fond of Middle Eastern cuisine, you must have tasted Tahini paste. This nutty paste is essential in their pantry as their meals are not completed without this. It is used to make their signature dishes like Dips, Halva, Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Mutabal, and many more.
WHAT IS BASIC TAHINI SAUCE?
The basic tahini includes sesame seeds, olive oil, and salt. The hulled sesame seeds are slightly roasted at low flame to make Tahini paste. It would be best if you were cautious to not over toast them otherwise you will get a bitter taste. These are blended with olive oil and salt to make a basic Tahini sauce
TAHINI DIP
Tahini dip is prepared with the basic tahini sauce, lemon juice, garlic clove, honey, and salt. All these ingredients are blended to a smooth and creamy consistency. Sometimes crushed ice or chilled water is added for a smooth blending.
This versatile dip is enjoyed with raw or fried veggies, falafel, kebabs, and as a spread in several types of Shwarma and Wraps Preparation

● INGREDIENTS REQUIRED TO MAKE TAHINI DIP
• White Sesame Seeds (hulled)- 100 gms
• Olive oil – 4-5 tbsp
• Garlic cloves- 1-2 nos
• Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
• Honey – 1 tsp
• Salt – 1 tsp
• Ice Cubes(slightly crushed) – 3-4
● HOW TO MAKE TAHINI DIP
1 – Add sesame seeds to a pan and keep on low-medium flame
Roast the seeds by stirring constantly. You will feel the nutty aroma. Be careful that we don’t need their colour to be changed
2 – When the seeds are roasted, transfer them to a plate and allow them to cool
3 – When the sesame seeds are cooled, grind them dry to a powder-like consistency
4 – Now add olive oil, lemon juice, garlic cloves, honey, salt and crushed ice to the blender
5 – Blend all the ingredients to a fine paste. * If this is hard to blend, add some more ice or cold water to ease the blending
6 – Transfer the Tahini Dip to a serving bowl and serve it with raw veggie sticks, falafel, and kebabs
● TIPS AND NOTES
• By toasting, tahini gives a strong flavor. Add honey to balance the strong and slightly bitter taste
• If ice or water is added, its shelf life becomes short. It is advised to refrigerate and consume it within a week
